Zechariah 1:3

‘This is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies says: Return to Me, and I will return to you’

In Zechariah’s time the adverse circumstances the people of GOD experienced discouraged them greatly. The land had been desolate after 70 years of neglect; the work of restoring the land was hard; they didn't have a lot of money; they suffered crop damage; they were faced with hostile enemies; and above all else they longed for the comfort of their former life in captivity.

And each of these circumstances made them feel that GOD was just getting further and further away. But through Zechariah, GOD assures them that He is not distant! In fact if they were to return to Him—He would return to them!

Sometimes we might wish GOD would make us return to Him. However, GOD wants us to make the first move. The important point we have to remember here is this . . . He never moved in the first place!

And if you are wondering whether we have a part in helping others see their need of returning to GOD we need to consider that we are Christ’s ambassadors and that GOD is willing to make His appeal through us—2 Corinthians 5:20—the remainder of that verse goes like this . . . ‘We speak for Christ when we plead, “Come back to GOD!”’

Returning back to GOD is not as hard as it sounds. Turn your eyes back to the LORD Jesus Christ and realize as Peter realized when he began to sink—Jesus is only ever an ‘arms reach’ away from any of us at any moment in time
